Stand Where You Can Hear Yourself

Self-respect treats inner dignity as a fact, not a negotiable mood.

R Richard Nkwenti 1 min read

Self-respect begins in the places where no one is watching: the promise kept to your own body, the standard maintained without applause, the truth acknowledged before it becomes convenient.

It is difficult to hear yourself in rooms that reward your disappearance. Step out of the noise long enough to notice which compromises have started calling themselves maturity.

You are allowed to become unavailable for your own diminishment. Choose speech that does not betray your knowledge. Choose company that does not require a smaller version of your spirit.

Stand where your inner voice can reach you. Then act as though its dignity belongs among the facts of the day.
