Return Your Name to Yourself

Keep precise accountability and release the verdicts that were never yours.

R Richard Nkwenti 1 min read

Other people have spoken your name through their needs, disappointments, and incomplete understanding. Their versions may have followed you home.

Tonight, return your name to yourself. Remove the adjectives placed there by anger. Release the verdicts delivered by people who never carried your whole story. You are responsible for your conduct, but you are not required to become every accusation made against you.

Let accountability be precise and shame lose its appetite for everything. Keep what is true. Repair what is yours. Set down what belongs to another person's wound.

Your name should be a place you can rest without pretending to be flawless.
