Midnight Note

Nothing to Earn Here

Sleep asks for no résumé and performs its ancient work without applause.

R Richard Nkwenti 1 min read

Sleep is one of the few gifts the body offers without asking for a résumé. It does not need proof that the day was productive. It does not inspect the inbox or compare your progress.

Come to rest without presenting a case for why you deserve it. The unfinished list can remain unfinished. The apology can wait until you have the steadiness to mean it. The idea can return when the mind has room.

For these hours, there is nothing to earn and no identity to maintain.

Let the body perform its ancient work in privacy. Trust the intelligence that repairs without applause.
