Before the World Names the Day
Meet the day in silence before urgency gives it a name.
There is a brief country before the messages arrive. In it, the day has not yet been named difficult, urgent, successful, or wasted. It is simply open.
Visit that country this morning. Keep the screen dark for a little longer. Hear the ordinary sounds that do not require a response. Let your first attention belong to something deeper than interruption.
Silence is not an absence waiting to be filled. It is a medium through which proportion returns. In it, the important separates from the merely loud.
Begin before the world assigns its vocabulary to your hours. Give the day one word of your own.
