On Measuring What Matters

We measure what is easy to count and then quietly forget what we left out. Every metric is a choice, and every choice casts a shadow — the thing that mattered but resisted the number.

This is not an argument against measurement. Rigour is valuable, and vagueness is not a virtue. It is an argument for holding the numbers alongside what they cannot capture: attention, meaning, the felt quality of a life.
