The beginning is exciting and the ending is satisfying, and so we speak of them as the meaningful parts. But almost everything real happens in the middle, where there is no novelty and no finish line.
The middle is where most good things are abandoned — not because they failed, but because they stopped being interesting before they stopped being necessary.
Build a life that can survive the middle. That is most of the skill of finishing anything.
